A safety harness is a device worn by people working at heights to help reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall. When a fall is arrested, the harness distributes the force of the fall across the wearer's body. These fall arrest harnesses attach to the shoulders, torso and upper thighs.
It has a D-ring on the upper back (back) for attaching a self-retracting lifeline or shock-absorbing lanyard to a secure anchor point on a building or structure. The position of the D-ring reduces pressure on the wearer's body and keeps the wearer upright in the safety harness during and after a fall.
